Harsita Alur Yojane, Karnataka, with the support of Tata Education and Development Trust, implemented the ‘Sashakt – HP Printer Initiative’ benefiting 275 rural women across Karnataka. This initiative empowered women to establish their own enterprises, enhancing both their economic independence and social empowerment. By fostering entrepreneurial opportunities, Project Sashakt addressed the demand for affordable and accessible printing facilities in rural areas, creating new pathways for rural development.
The program introduced technical skill-building, equipping women with knowledge on printer setup, handling multiple functions, and delivering printing and scanning services. Training was delivered through technology-driven content, including videos and illustrated guides. Each participant (Saathi) was provided access to an HP portable printer at a subsidized cost of ₹4,400 (actual cost ₹7,400 with an upfront subsidy of ₹3,000).
The initiative successfully transformed villages into digital hubs of services, while also instilling self-confidence, technical skills, and a sense of agency among women at the grassroots level. The HP Printer Program was implemented across five districts of Karnataka in collaboration with partner organizations.
