Women Empowerment Through A Self-Help Groups

Women Empowerment Through A Self-Help Groups

The organization regularly visits villages to mobilize and organize women into Self-Help Groups (SHGs), typically consisting of 15–20 like-minded women from the same village or neighborhood. Each SHG maintains records, conducts weekly meetings, encourages thrift and savings, opens a bank account in the SHG’s name, and appoints representatives. Members are trained in book-keeping, internal lending, and credit repayment.

Through these efforts, women empowerment initiatives were promoted across Alur, Holenarsipura, and Sakaleshapura taluks. With the support of various institutions, several SHGs were successfully established:

  • CARITAS India/CMSS: 15 SHGs

  • HDCC Bank / PACCB Banks: 120 SHGs

  • ZP Hassan / SGSY BPL Program: 55 SHGs in Alur and H.N. Pura taluks

  • NABARD: 125 SHGs in Alur and H.N. Pura taluks

  • CAPART: 15 SHGs

  • Watershed Program: 20 SHGs

All these SHGs function effectively, adhering to SHG principles and practices.

Under the SGSY scheme, HARSITHA collaborated with ZP Hassan to mobilize financial support. A total of 100 SHGs with BPL women members were promoted. These groups were provided with capacity-building training, documentation support, and monitoring. As a result, 55 SHGs in Alur and H.N. Pura taluks received revolving funds of ₹10,000 each, along with subsidies, enabling them to start income-generating activities.
